At St John Fisher, we are dedicated to nurturing and developing the whole child so that each unique child of God grows in confidence and is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and self-belief to reach their full potential.
Our PE curriculum provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where children can develop a lifelong passion for sport, physical activity, and healthy living. We believe that Physical Education is about far more than physical ability—it is also a powerful vehicle for promoting emotional, social, moral, and spiritual growth.
We aim to ensure that all children:
-
- Develop competence and confidence across a broad range of physical activities
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time
- Participate in competitive sports and team games
- Understand how to lead healthy, active lives
Our holistic approach enables pupils to improve their fitness and coordination while also learning important values such as determination, teamwork, respect, honesty, and perseverance. We encourage children to embrace challenge, grow in self-confidence, and reflect on how their actions affect both themselves and others.
We place a strong emphasis on character development, helping children understand the importance of fairness, collaboration, and good sportsmanship. PE at St John Fisher is designed to support children’s physical, social, and emotional well-being while also contributing to their spiritual, moral, and cultural development.
A wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities further enriches our PE offer, allowing children to explore their interests, develop new skills, and make independent choices that foster a love for sport and movement.
Ultimately, our intention is that children leave St John Fisher with a positive attitude towards physical activity, a deep understanding of its benefits, and a desire to lead healthy and active lives—ready to make a positive difference as confident, respectful, and responsible global citizens.
Our PE Subject Leader is Miss J Barrow.
